The Bangladeshi Garment sector is a leading garments manufacturing industry in the world that has been growing constantly during the last decades. Today garments sector represents 80% of the national export. These number describe the sector as the most leading manufacturing industry in Bangladesh. The growth is clear, 50 factories in 1982 to 4560 factories in 2019 and about 4 Million people employed in the industry. The world is dealing with the global financial crisis, and prices are to be always competitive and therefore in difficult times Bangladesh exports in apparel is still growing.

GARMENT INDUSTRY

Garment manufacturers in Bangladesh could be split in 3 groups. The first group are factories that have a vertical operation from yarn spinning until ready made garments. These are the larger operations. The next group is the one that does not have spinning but they do their own knitting, weaving and fabric finishing until ready made garments, and the last group the largest, only makes ready made garments.
Bangladesh has one of the lowest labor rate, this is an important advantage in the apparel industry for being able to supply the world with quality apparel for a competitive price. The current recession has shown that overseas demands for expensive items have declined and the cheaper garments have been supplied from Bangladesh, in fact the demand has increased in Bangladesh.
Many different types of garments are produced in Bangladesh. You can divided the products in the following categories:
-12% Woven Shirts and Blouses,
-20% Woven Bottom (Shorts + Trousers)
-36% Cut and Sewn Knits (T-shirts, Sweatshirts)
-15% Sweaters
The balance percentage (17%) country for Underwear, Home textiles, Jackets and Socks.
